Discover the art of dancing in heels

Heels: an explosion of style, emotion and character.

Heels is a modern dance form that combines sensuality, technique, and power, and is performed in high heels. But where can you learn and practice this fascinating discipline?

Born between the world of commercial dance and video dance, the Heels style is a mix of jazz funk, hip hop, street dance and theatrical movement.

Here's how to dance:

1. We start from posture

Dancing in heels requires balance, stability, and body control. The first thing to learn is to walk well in heels: keep your back straight, abs engaged, gaze up, and move fluidly. Carriage is an essential part of dancing in heels.

2. Technical and strength work

Despite its elegant and light appearance, Heels is a very physical dance. It requires leg and core strength (abdomen and back), and good isolation control (separate movements of the hips, chest, shoulders, and head).

During the lessons, we work on:

  • Choreographic walk

  • Isolations

  • Controlled laps

  • Theatrical and dynamic poses

  • Floorwork (ground movements)

3. Choreography to pop or R&B music

Heels is often danced to rhythmic, sensual, and powerful beats. Choreography is designed to emphasize the dancer's personality and stage presence. Musicality is emphasized, meaning how the movements fit seamlessly with the sounds and pauses of the song.

4. Personal interpretation

Heels aren't just about movement, they're about expression. Attitude, confidence, gaze, and presence are key. Every step should communicate something: femininity, strength, freedom, or seduction, depending on the piece. It's a style that helps build self-confidence and embrace your body.

5. You can dance even without heels (at the beginning!)

For beginners, it's common to start with flats or barefoot. The important thing is to focus on technique and posture before switching to heels. When you're ready, gradually move on to thick, comfortable heels, then to thinner, more dramatic heels .
