Pole dancing has its origins in ancient traditions, including Mallakhamb, a discipline practiced in India as early as the 12th century, in which athletes performed on wooden poles with strength and control exercises. Later, pole dancing evolved in the North American circus, where artists used tent poles for their acrobatic performances. Later, it entered bars and burlesque clubs, becoming an entertainment activity. Recognition as an international sport came in 2005, where the first world championship was held in Amsterdam in 2005, while in Italy the official entry into competitions occurred in 2010 in Rome.
